Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, also known as Ashanti was born on 13 October on the 13th of October, 1980 on the 13th of October, 1980 in Glen Cove New York United States. She is a US singer songwriter. Ashanti was first discovered when she was an 18-year-old and was became signed to Murder Inc. Records in 2002. Ashanti was featured in The Fat Joe's What's Luv? Tina Douglas, her mother, is a retired dance teacher. Ken-Kaide Douglas is her father. Kenashia Shai Douglas is her younger sister. She is the oldest of them all. Douglas was given the name Ashanti to honour the Ashanti Empire in which women had control and power. Douglas hoped Ashanti would emulate this. James her grandfather was a prominent civil rights activist who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s. Ashanti's mum discovered Ashanti's talent after hearing her sing Mary J. Blige's "Reminisce.. Ashanti appeared on Spike Lee's Malcolm X (1992) as well as Ted Demme's Who's the Man? as an unidentified young actor. Ja Rule's "Always on Time" and Fat Joe's What's Luv! In her debut song Foolish, DeBarge's Stay With Me which was released in 1983 is played. Ashanti has released her debut album, entitled "Ashanti" in 2002, under Irv Getti's Murder Inc. Record Label. The Declaration is Ashanti's fourth studio album. The album was released through Murder Inc. on June 3, 2008. The 16th of October Hey Baby (After the Club) was released on the radio and online outlets. Also, she was in the movies Christmas in the City, Army Wives and Latasha Monteclair. Her song Rock wit U was sampled by British artist Aitch to accompany his track Baby on the 10th of March 2022.
