Barbara Heck

BARBARA HICK (Baby) RUCKLE was born in 1734, Ballingrane. She was the daughter of Margaret Embury and Bastian Ruckle. Bastian Ruckle (Sebastian) as well as Margaret Embury, daughter of Bastian Ruckle (Republic of Ireland) and married Paul Heck (1760) in Ireland. The couple were blessed with seven children. Of these, four lived to adulthood.

Usually, the subject of biographical works has been significant participants in major events or has enunciated distinctive concepts or ideas that have been documented in written form. Barbara Heck, on the contrary, did not leave notes or written documents. There is no evidence to support such items as her date of marriage, is merely secondary. It's not possible to retrace the motives of Barbara Heck and her behavior throughout her life from first-hand sources. However, she has become one of the most heroic figures in early North American Methodism time. For this particular case, the biographer's task is to define and interpret the myth and, if it is possible, to identify the person who is enshrined within the myth.

Abel Stevens, a Methodist historian who wrote this essay in 1866. The growth of Methodism in the United States has now indisputably established the modest name of Barbara Heck first on the lists of women's roles in the ecclesiastical history of the New World. It is much more vital to examine the enormity of Barbara Heck's record with respect to the title she was given than the story of her life. Barbara Heck's involvement in the early days of Methodism was a synchronicity that happened to be a lucky one. Her fame stems in part to the fact it has come to be a standard practice for incredibly successful movements or organisations to celebrate their historic roots to preserve ties with the past.
